Health Data Analytics, Certificate


Program Description

This 13 credit-hour certificate provides the health data analytics skills needed in the health information technology workplace.  The course are offered on-line so students can continue to work while completing the certificate program.  Certificate holders are eligible for employment in the health informatics and information management field.  They would be eligible to sit for the certified Health Data Analyst (CHDA) credential offered by the American Health Information Management Association and the CAHIMS offered by the Health Information Systems Society.  Students completing the program would be eligible to enter the MHIIM program.

Admission requirements

The College of Health Professions strives to create a diverse student body that is representative of a wide range of social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds and maintains excellence in each program. All qualified in-state and-out of-state individuals who meet the admissions requirements for the academic programs offered by the College are encouraged to apply and will be considered fully. However, as a state-supported institution, preference for admission will be given to residents of the state of Tennessee who have the same qualifications as non-resident applicants.

  1. Baccalaureate degree with a 3.0 GPA
  2. Two letters of recommendation
  3. Interview with Admissions Committee
  4. Foreign applicants whose native language is not English mist submit the results of the TOEFL, with a minimum score of 550 on the written and 213 on the computer test of 80 on the TOEFL iBT
  5. Official transcripts
  6. Ability to meet published technical standards of the Health Informatics and Information Management program (applicants should contact SASSI for questions and assistance);
  7. A completed application form including an essay describing the applicant’s career goals;
  8. A non-refundable application fee must accompany the application.

Completion requirements

The following requirements must be satisfied to earn the certificate in Health Data Analytics:

  1. Satisfactory completion of 13 credit hours of graduate coursework.  Course required for the certificate include
  2. Completion of coursework with a 3.0 average .  A grade of “B” of above in each course is required.
  3. Meeting technical standards for the degree.
  4. Discharge of financial obligations to the University and removal of all deficiencies documented by the Registrar.
