Degrees and Certificates Offered


The College of Dentistry offers entry-level and advance programs of study. The Doctor of  Dental Surgery, DDS  degree is a full-time 4-year program of study. The Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene (BSDH)  is a 2+2 program (that is, students complete approximately two years of general education and prerequisite requirements at an accredited general academic institution prior to matriculating into the BSDH  program in the College of Dentistry).

Postgraduate programs of study are offered by the College of Dentistry. Endodontic, Orthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, Periodontology, and Prosthodontic postgraduate programs offer a Master of Dental Science  (MDS) Degree offered through the College of Graduate Health Sciences.

Advanced Education in General Dentistry  (sponsored by UTHSC College of Dentistry and St. Thomas Hospital Nashville) - Certificate only (1 year)
Endodontics - Certificate only (2 years) or Certificate & MDS Degree (3 years)
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery - Certificate (4 years)
Orthodontics - Certificate & MDS Degree (3 years)
Pediatric Dentistry - Certificate only (2 years) or Certificate & MDS Degree (3 years)
Periodontology - Certificate & MDS Degree (3 years)
Prosthodontics - Certificate & MDS Degree (3 years)
