MT 419 - Introduction to Laboratory Sciences


Cr Hrs: 4 (40-60)

Designed to introduce new laboratory science students to medical terminology, healthcare professions, professional attributes and strategies for student success in professional programs. Principles involved in specimen collection and preparation of various types of solutions, dilutions and calculations used in the clinical laboratory will be covered. Students are taught the basics principles of laboratory instrumentation including spectrophotometry, electrochemistry, and identification of basic human cells using the microscope. The use of Standard Precautions and safety in the laboratory are emphasized. Laboratory exercises support lecture material.
