PHCY 2200 - Infectious Diseases l Cr Hrs: 2 (2-0-0)
This course is designed to develop the student’s ability to apply principles and concepts of microbiology and clinical therapeutics to the prevention and treatment of specific infectious diseases. Content from the disciplines of medicinal chemistry, pharmacokinetics, pharmacology, and therapeutics will be covered. The etiology and pathophysiology of acute and chronic bacterial infections and antibiotic resistance will be addressed to the extent required to thoroughly understand the management of disease. Emphasis will be placed on selection and evaluation of rational, evidence-based drug therapy, design of effective therapeutic regimens, and monitoring of drug response using appropriate clinical, physical assessment, and laboratory measures.
This course may be repeated for up to 2 credit hours.
