MLS 407 - Blood Bank
Cr Hrs: 5 The course covers theories of immunohematology with application to clinical blood banking. Lecture sessions include technical aspects related to blood group antigens and antibodies, serological procedures, quality control, donor requirements, blood storage, and blood components with application of this knowledge to problem solving in antibody identification, various hemolytic diseases, adverse effects of transfusion, and transfusion therapy. Also encompassed in this course are basic concepts of the immune response such as antigen and antibody interactions, the complement system, disorders of the immune response, and hypersensitivity reactions.
