PHCY 1209 - Pharmacy-based Immunization Delivery
Cr Hrs: 0.5 (0-1-0) This required course is a two-part innovative and interactive training program focusing on the role of pharmacists as vaccine advocates that teaches student pharmacists the skills necessary to become a primary resource for vaccine information and administration. The program teaches the basics of immunology and focuses on practice implementation and legal/regulatory issues. The first part is a self-study learning program that requires approximately 8 hours to complete. This provides an in-depth knowledge on implementing a pharmacy immunization program, clinical as well as practical considerations of vaccine administration, and a guide to reference books published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The second part is 12 hours of didactic and laboratory classes designed to be highly interactive and to reinforce the material learned in the self-study. This combined program addresses areas of immunization needs, compensation, marketing, legal and regulatory issues, and injection-technique training.
