BIOE 824 - Genetic Epidemiology: Methods and Applications
Cr Hrs: 3 (48-0-0) This course will provide an overview of the rapidly advancing field of genetic epidemiology and genomics. It is designed for a broad audience and targets students, fellows, and residents with diverse background in the health sciences. The course will start with an introduction to molecular genetics, genome organization, and principles of inheritance and quantitative genetics. This will be followed by a series of lectures and discussions on human genome diversity, linkage mapping, genome-wide association studies (GWAS), QTLs, and the technological advances driving genome research. Topics covered include epigenetics and gene expression, personalized genomics, and ethical implications. The course will involve a combination of lectures, independent study/learning, discussion sessions, and some hands-on computer work.
