PHCY 4500 - Advanced Institutional Pharmacy Practice
Cr Hrs: 4 (0-0-160) A one-month advanced pharmacy practice experience (APPE) required rotation conducted in an institutional pharmacy, most often a hospital. This rotation will build upon the knowledge and skills previously learned in the IPPE institutional rotation. During this experience, the student pharmacist will develop an understanding of health-systems and the role and function of pharmacy within that system. The student pharmacist will also gain experience with the day-to-day pharmacy operations. Topics will include hospital pharmacy organization, work flow and personnel, preparation of sterile and non-sterile formulations, packaging and labeling operations, inpatient drug distribution systems, quality assurance, drug storage, and inventory control. Issues surrounding medication safety in the environment and the national safety goals will be addressed.
