PED 45055 - CARES Team-Child Advocacy and Resource Evaluation Service
Cr Hrs: 3 Session Length: 2 weeks
This is a face-to-face clinical rotation. The CARES rotation will give medical students a brief Introduction into the diagnosis, treatment, and advocacy work surrounding child physical and sexual abuse. Students will participate in inpatient consults, outpatient clinic visits, multi disciplinary team meetings with non-medical community partners, and attend court proceedings associated with child maltreatment cases at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital. Students will learn to recognize and differentiate specific abusive injuries, sentinel Injuries, and accidental injuries commonly seen in children as how to elicit and document potentially difficult patient histories, and understand when to report concerning cases to state authorities.
