PED 30001 - Core Topics in Pediatrics

This is an online 2-week 3-credit hour course providing students with an introduction to the core medical knowledge and common diseases relevant for pediatric clinical care. All lessons and assignments are mandatory, unless specified as optional (identified as “resources). This course will focus on concepts central to pediatric care including patient- and family centered care, health promotion, disease and injury prevention, role of the family and community in the care of children, social determinants of health and the effect of adverse childhood events on childhood development, high value care, anticipatory guidance, presentation and management of common pediatric illnesses. Additionally, students will be introduced to the clinical skills of obtaining a pediatric history and performing a pediatric physical exam. Clinical settings discussed throughout this course will include general well child care, acute care in the outpatient setting, emergency department and inpatient care.
