PROS 231 - Oral Implantology
Cr Hrs: 1.5 18-12-0 Provides an introduction to dental implantology for the predoctoral student. Oral implantology provides a viable modality for effective treatment planning and delivery of quality oral health care. Knowledge of variations in types and purposes of oral implants is essential in the current practice of dentistry. Placement and restoration of oral implants must conform to acceptable anatomic and physiologic parameters as well as esthetic values of the oral functional systems. The purpose of the course is to supply the dental student with information that will enable him/her to diagnose and plan treatment for dental patients with appropriate dental implants as a foundation to establishment of occlusal harmony; to introduce the student to the biologic interrelationships essential to successful placement of dental implants within a functional system; to clarify for the student the technical complexities in the patient treatment involving implants.
