GGI 903 - Medical Genetics
Cr Hrs: 3 (48-0-0) This course will provide a foundation in medical genetics and aims to equip students with a better understanding of the relationship between basic genetics and clinical medicine. The course presents an overview of the disease process and differential diagnosis of related genetic disorders and includes the following topics: birth defects/embryology, prenatal diagnosis, inborn errors of metabolism, common diseases, monogenic, polygenic, and multifactorial genetics, genetic screening, immunogenetics, cancer genetics, pharmacogenetics, hemoglobinopathies, ciliopathies, genetic counselling and the ethical, legal and social issues that arise in medical genetics.
