PED 45014 - Pediatric Dermatology
Cr Hrs: 6 Session Length: 4 Weeks
This is a face to face clinical rotation receiving 6 credit hours. The student should function with increased autonomy in patient care and must demonstrate competency in several of the Entrustable Professional Activities required for graduation. This is a clinical rotation in pediatric dermatology where students will see pediatric patients with a wide spectrum of dermatologic conditions that affect the skin, hair, and nails. Patients are seen in both the outpatient clinic setting and inpatient consult setting. Students will have the opportunity to interact with some patients independently, but they will be supervised by an attending pediatric dermatologist at all times. Emphasis will be placed on learning to obtain a relevant clinical history, perform a thorough cutaneous examination, and present the findings while employing proper dermatologic terminology. Students will gain experience in formulating a differential diagnosis and therapeutic plan for patients. Students will also have the opportunity to observe and assist with minor surgical and laser procedures in the clinic and OR settings.
