SUR 40100 - Junior Internship in General Surgery
Cr Hrs: 6 Session Length: 4 weeks
This is a face to face clinical rotation receiving 6 credit hours. The student will function as a junior intern with increased autonomy and ownership in patient care and must demonstrate competency in all of the Entrustable Professional Activities required for graduation. This elective has a focus on gastrointestinal surgical oncology and endocrine surgery. It provides a unique opportunity to experience an extremely broad range of GI pathology at Baptist Memorial Hospital in its role as a tertiary care institution. The elective is structured to provide intern-level responsibilities for the senior student. The student is expected to prepare for cases, be present in the OR, make rounds with the team, and participate in clinic serving patients with a broad range of GI pathology, and attend weekly resident conferences.
