OPH 40100 - Junior Internship in Ophthalmology
Cr Hrs: 6 Session Length: 4 weeks
This is a 6 credit hour clinical rotation involving outpatient ophthalmology clinical experiences, inpatient ophthalmic consultations at three tertiary care hospitals, and ophthalmic surgical encounters (outpatient, inpatient, emergency, and elective). The student will demonstrate increased autonomy and ability to function as an intern under the supervision of senior residents and attendings in the following settings: comprehensive and subspecialty ophthalmology services at the Hamilton Eye Institute, Regional One, Methodist University Hospital, Le Bonheur, and University Clinical Health. The student is expected to become skilled in ocular examination, to assist in the evaluation of outpatients, to participate in rounds, to assist and observe surgical cases, to attend all resident didactics and conferences, and participate in all required evaluation processes (including peer review). Interactive media and assigned readings will supplement didactic and clinical experiential learning. They will gain experience and knowledge of the medical and surgical management of ophthalmic diseases.
