Session Length: 4 weeks

PD

This is a face to face clinical rotation receiving 6 credit hours. The student will function as a junior intern with increased autonomy in patient care and must demonstrate competency in all of the Entrustable Professional Activities required for graduation. This junior internship in obstetrics allows the senior medical student to function as an intern on the labor and delivery service with supervision by the senior resident and attending. They will be supervised in vaginal deliveries, assist in cesarean deliveries, and provide routine care from admission to postpartum care. The student will assist in evaluation of complicated patients in triage including basic ultrasound. With over 4,000 deliveries this busy obstetrical service allows opportunity for introduction to multitasking and time management required for obgyn residency. Students are expected to attend the weekly high risk clinic, diabetic clinic, and all educational conferences (grand rounds, resident didactics, and M&M). If scheduling permits, students can participate in a night float week to gain exposure and add experience.
