SUR 35055 - Surgical Oncology CE
Cr Hrs: 3, 6 Session Length: 2 or 4 weeks
PD
This is a face to face clinical rotation receiving 3 or 6 credit hours. The student should function with increased autonomy in patient care and must demonstrate competency in several of the Entrustable Professional Activities required for graduation. The Regional One Health Surgical Oncology Elective is a 2-4 week rotation in which the M3 student will gain exposure and clinical experience to a variety of surgical oncology disease related processes including breast cancer, colorectal cancer, benign and malignant hepatopancreatobiliary diseases, melanoma and soft tissue sarcoma. This rotation incorporates both smaller, elective outpatient procedures as well as more complex open abdominal procedures. The student may expect a healthy mixture of open and minimally invasive/robotic surgery techniques. Patient exposure, outpatient clinic and hospital rotation will be exclusively at Regional One Health. The ROH Surg Onc Elective is an intense clinical rotation with a very robust operative and technical exposure, potential for increased autonomy and recommended for those seriously considering general surgery and/or a surgical subspecialty. There are also several weekly multidisciplinary conferences for each disease processes which include discussion of complex oncologic management with medical oncology, radiation oncology, radiology and pathology.
