EME 40115 - Junior Internship in Emergency Medicine

Cr Hrs: 6
Session Length: 4 weeks

PD

This is a face to face clinical rotation receiving 6 credit hours. The student will function as a junior intern with increased autonomy in patient care and must demonstrate competency in all of the Entrustable Professional Activities required for graduation. The Emergency Medicine Junior-Internship in Murfreesboro, TN exposes students to the practice of emergency medicine in one of the busiest emergency departments in the state. With an annual census of between 80,000 and 90,000 patient visits, the student will be exposed to the full range of disease pathology and patient presentations in emergency medicine. This course is a junior-intern level experience and students will be expected to follow their patients from presentation to disposition including medical charting, CPOE, appropriate consultation, admission, and coordination of ED resources. They will perform ED procedures including airway management with appropriate supervision. The student will generally work with one attending and resident during each shift, allowing for continuity of teaching throughout the shift and the opportunity for constructive feedback on student performance. It is the expectation that at the end of this rotation the student will understand basic principles of emergency medical care and stabilization/resuscitation.
