This required course is the first course in the IPECS series and uses a combination of lectures, team-based activities, and clinical simulation to teach problem-solving and skills essential to pharmacy practice. The course will focus on foundational practice and communication skills necessary to perform the pharmacist patient care process across various patient populations and circumstances. The course will increase the understanding of the role of the pharmacist in patient care and as part of the healthcare team. Students participate in interprofessional education with other health profession students with the goals of developing mutual respect, understanding of team members’ unique roles and responsibilities, and the importance of collaboration and communication of the healthcare team.
