PED 45017 - Pediatric Emergency Medicine
Cr Hrs: 3, 6 Session Length: 2 and 4 weeks

This is a face to face clinical rotation receiving 3 or 6 credit hours. The student should function with increased autonomy in patient care and must demonstrate competency in several of the Entrustable Professional Activities required for graduation. Student will learn to evaluate and manage pediatric emergencies, including a wide variety of pathology and acuity. Student will see ~80 to 100 patients per week. Medical students will evaluate non-critically ill patients first and then, after the attending or resident has evaluated the patient, formulate a treatment plan with the attending. Medical student will observe and assist the attending in evaluation of critically ill patients. Students will have the opportunity to perform PEM procedures. A PEM board certified attending will be present at all times; often times, and a 2nd or 3rd year resident may be present also. Student will attend pediatric resident conferences. Schedule: 4-5 10 hr shifts/week including nights and weekends. Shift schedule is negotiable and schedule requests are taken prior to the start of rotation.
