OTD 915  - Orthotics for Occupational Performance

This course introduces the history of splinting, splinting theories, principles and techniques for several types of splints commonly used in the rehabilitation setting. Emphasis is placed on choosing the proper material, position and splint based on diagnosis and anatomical structures. Students learn about the properties of various thermoplastic materials and tools as well as fabrication of splint patterns and splint through lecture, demonstration, and hands-on learning activities. Students are required to complete competencies (skills assessment) for proper and safe use of orthotics and prosthetics for successful completion of this course.
