This Radiation Oncology elective for 4th-year medical students will teach the principles and clinical practice of radiation therapy in cancer care. Students will engage in patient assessments, review radiation treatment plans, and observe the delivery of radiation therapy, including external beam and brachytherapy techniques. Emphasis will be placed on understanding acute and late side effects, as well as developing strategies for managing these symptoms. Students will also participate in multidisciplinary tumor board discussions and learn the integration of radiation therapy with surgery, chemotherapy, and supportive care. Students will refine communication skills with patients and other radiation oncology team members. Students will also be expected to give a presentation on a topic of their choosing to our faculty.
