SUR1 4070/F - Pediatric Surgery Cr Hrs: 3.5, 7 Session Length: 2 and 4 weeks
This is a face to face clinical rotation receiving 3.5 or 7 credit hours. The student should function with increased autonomy in patient care and must demonstrate competency in several of the Entrustable Professional Activities required for graduation. This clerkship offers 4th year students an advanced clinical experience in the surgical care of infants and children. The service is a busy general pediatric surgical service located at Children’s Hospital, an urban 255 bed children’s hospital. The faculty consists of eight full-time board certified pediatric surgeons, with special expertise in the care of birth defects, minimally invasive surgery, pediatric trauma, and burns. Outpatient care of children with a broad range of surgical problems is provided through clinics held five days each week. The goal of this rotation is to improve diagnostic and technical skills of the students and help prepare students interested in pursuing careers in surgery or pediatrics.
