PPER 815 - Orthodontics-Periodontics Seminar

This course discusses the interrelationship between orthodontics and periodontics. Highlighted are scenarios that require interdisciplinary orthodontist/periodontist team approach to provide an optimal treatment outcome. Selected literature of common interest to the students of Orthodontics and Periodontics is reviewed. Residents from both departments present an interdisciplinary case and provide a comprehensive team approach to addres the patient concerns. The purpose of this seminar is to foster greater interaction and understanding between orthodontists and periodontists, including the identification of patients that are good candidates for joint treatment by both specialties. This course will consist of 13-15 one-hour sessions of lectures and literature discussion. This will be followed by residents’ presentations on the diagnosis and treatment planning of select interdisciplinary cases.
