SUR 45045 - Plastic Surgery

This is a face to face clinical rotation receiving 3 or 6 credit hours. The student should function with increased autonomy in patient care and must demonstrate competency in several of the Entrustable Professional Activities required for graduation. The purpose of this course is to introduce the subspecialty of Plastic Surgery to the student at a first-hand level. The student will become intimately involved in a large volume practice overlooking a Plastic Surgery training program. Specific subjects covered are: Wound Healing, Soft Tissue Injuries, Tumors of the Skin, Tumors of the Head and Neck, Burn Therapy, Diagnosis and Management of Facial Fractures, Cleft Lip and Palate, Craniofacial Deformities, the Hand, and Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery. Conferences will include weekly Trauma Rounds (Monday) and Plastic Surgery Grand Rounds (Wednesday). M&M and Indications Conference take place once a month following Trauma Rounds (Monday), and Journal Club takes place twice monthly following Trauma Rounds.
