FME 45013 - Sports Medicine

Cr Hrs: 3, 6
Session Length: 2 or 4 weeks

PD

This is a face to face clinical rotation receiving 3 or 6 credit hours.  The student should function with increased autonomy in patient care and must demonstrate competency in several of the Entrustable Professional Activities required for graduation. In the United States, musculoskeletal complaints rank second only to upper respiratory infections as the reason for seeking medical attention. Family medicine physicians are often the first point of contact for patients with both routine and complex musculoskeletal complaints, making basic musculoskeletal knowledge vital for the care of our patients. The family physician must have the knowledge to treat, refer appropriately, and educate the patient and their family about musculoskeletal conditions. By the end of the Sports Medicine rotation, students are expected to expand and cultivate skills and knowledge learned during previous training. The student should exhibit an increasing level of responsibility and independence as he or she progresses throughout the rotation. As as a student, you are expected to have a willingness to learn and an eagerness to participate in all areas of care, including taking ownership of patient care during this rotation.
